The Artist Spotlight Project™
FAQ
What is the Artist Spotlight Project?
The artist spotlight project is a project I started in April 2021 with the intent of using my free time to help promote up-and-coming artists and producers’ latest music projects. While the project is currently small, interest among the music community on Twitch has grown a bit over the last few months, and I have a small handful of producers and artists I am working with now. I have the support of a few other music communities that help promote the project as well (over 5,000 followers collectively).
Twitch Music Community - Chris Simon Music
Twitch Community - Dance Like Butter
Music Community - Producer League Friendship Gang
Producer - MVRTK
What does the Artist Spotlight Project do for me?
The things that I can do for the artists/producers with the Artist Spotlight Project include:
A spot on my Artist Spotlight Project Playlists (listed on Tidal, Spotify, and a few others as time allows – As of June, I have primarily focused on developing the Spotify playlist)
A few shout outs on my social media channels
I do use a paid service to optimize hashtags to increase the amount of potential exposure on my posts. Financial support from my Twitch channel makes this possible.
A “Featured Artist” page on this website that includes details of you, your music, and any details related to your latest (or past) releases. This page is up to you (the artist/producer) on what and how you want information presented.
An opportunity for a live interview on my Twitch channel providing you an opportunity to share your story with a small community of other artists and producers.
The interview takes place on Zoom (broadcast on Twitch), and you will receive a copy of the recorded Zoom session for your own personal use.
Does it cost any money?
No.
There is no cost to participate and I do not personally collect any revenue from the project. Any donations received go directly back to the project to support the promotion of featured artists and producers.
What kind of “success” can I expect?
As I am sure you everyone can understand, for a free service, I can’t (and frankly, it would be unethical of me to do anything otherwise) guarantee any “success” from involvement with the project. As well, as this is a “best-effort” project - as such, I can’t spend a lot of time chasing people down for information. Several submissions to the project have been playlisted because I never heard back from them regarding a potential interview or Featured Artist Page, and that’s perfectly fine.
How long will I stay on the Playlist?
Right now, most people are staying on the playlist for about a month until something comes along that is newer, and they get pushed off (first come, first served). I receive about 1-2 submissions directly per week and a number of tracks on the playlist are curated from other sources.
Just want your work considered for the playlist and nothing else? I can do that too!
How does the Featured Artist Page work?
For the featured artist page, I actively try to sit down with the artist/producer and help them write a personal biography and a write-up for their current project, select photos, and make sure that they have any relevant information included on the page. If they provide little to no information, I will put in some personal effort to try and come up with some decent information based on what I can find public; again, this is your page - within reason, you have creative control.
I have never done an interview - How do you help set me up for success?
For the interview, I will send out the interview questions about a week in advance and set up about a 15-30min call the day before the interview to get introductions out of the way, answer any last-minute questions, and get the person/s warmed up for the conversation. Artists and producers are welcome to add/remove any questions or topics they would like to cover. Generally speaking, I like to avoid politics and religion when conducting an interview. Artists/producers should expect the interview to take about 1 ½ - 2 hours.
Can I submit my project even if it’s not released?
The timing of anything related to the Artist Spotlight Project is up to the artist/producer. So far, anything I have done is for projects immediately upon their release or shortly afterward. However, for example, with one production team this year, I expect a few more interviews to occur this year as they have 3 additional projects lined up, so we may do some interviews before their release.
Sound good?
