About SYNTHWERK
SYNTHWERK is more than a music project — it is an exploration of the space between earth and machine, where analog warmth collides with digital precision. Founded by producer and composer Chris Cooley, SYNTHWERK creates electronic music that channels both the pulse of technology and the organic textures of the natural world.
Born in Georgia and now based in Gainesville, VA. Chris began his musical journey with acoustic and electric guitar as a teenager, long before discovering the expansive possibilities of synthesis. In 2018, his fascination with electronic sound design evolved into an obsession, ultimately shaping the sonic identity that is SYNTHWERK. Today, while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Production at Berklee College of Music, he continues to refine his craft — treating music as both a lifelong education and a field of endless discovery.
The SYNTHWERK sound is bold, cinematic, and adventurous: a blend of dreamy textures, rich tonal palettes, and the kinetic energy of electronic dance music. Drawing from genres as diverse as indie pop, house, synthwave, and classic rock, SYNTHWERK defies easy categorization. Its tracks are often described as “cosmic” — music that feels at once futuristic and nostalgic, intimate yet expansive.
Behind that sound lies a restless curiosity. Chris has immersed himself in the breadth of electronic music — from techno and trance to drum & bass and hip-hop — while also weaving in influences from classic rock of the ’70s and ’80s. His sonic palette nods to artists like Deadmau5, Elderbrook, Tycho, and Young the Giant, while also drawing inspiration from timeless principles: as Duke Ellington once said, “If it sounds good, it is good.”
For SYNTHWERK, genre is not a cage but a canvas. While the project is rooted in electronic dance music, it often ventures into other forms — from R&B and hip-hop to cinematic ballads. The unifying thread is not style but intention: to create soundscapes that resonate deeply, that tell stories, and that remind listeners of both the power of technology and the fragility of nature.
In practice, SYNTHWERK is forged in a bedroom-turned-studio, where Chris crafts his analog-driven sound layer by layer. It is an intensely personal process, yet the results are designed for connection — to move crowds on the dance floor, to transport solitary listeners into dreamlike states, and to spark reflection on the world we inhabit.
At its core, SYNTHWERK is a vision: electronic music as both machine and spirit, circuitry and soil, nostalgia and future. It is the soundtrack of the tension between nature and technology — and an invitation to find beauty within that balance.
SYNTHWERK’s first single, “Thunderstorms in Space,” brings a cosmic vibe with a tone-rich electric sound, offering a very fresh Melodic House sound. The track features superb sound design and a futuristic and enigmatic atmosphere with nice dreamy flavors.
